We’ve all been in a WhatsApp group where one admin’s power trip threatens to turn the conversation into a toxic wasteland. But what if getting away isn’t an option? Is it possible to block a group admin without leaving the group or causing more drama? Thankfully, the answer is yes. While you cannot directly dethrone them as administrators, you can effectively block them as users, limiting their ability to deal with you directly. As you may be aware, blocking a group is currently not possible. You can, however, leave the group and block the group admin.
You can also control who can add you to groups by changing the group privacy settings. But that’s a discussion for another day. There are two ways to block group administrators, which we explain here.

How to block an administrator whose phone number is not in your phone’s address book
You may be a member of WhatsApp groups whose administrators are not in your contact list or address book. If you want to block them, take the following steps
Tap or click the group subject after opening the WhatsApp group chat.
Tap or click the admin’s phone number to block it.
Tap or click Message phone number or Send Message if prompted.
A blank chat with the administrator will appear. At the top, tap or click the phone number.
Block > Block (tap or click).

How to block an administrator whose phone number is in your phone’s address book
On Android
Navigate to WhatsApp and select More options.
Then navigate to Settings and Account.
Here, select Privacy and then Blocked contacts.
Tap the “+” symbol.
Tap the admin’s name from the contact list.
On iPHONE
Navigate to WhatsApp and select Settings.
Tap Privacy, then Blocked.
Select Add New.
Tap the admin’s name from the contact list.
